What is Puff Binder?

Puff Binder is an amazing paint used for creating 3D effects on textiles. It's an extremely versatile 3D paint that can help you achieve many textures on your fabrics. It's not quite as permanent as our other 3D paint which is good if you need to remove some after application.

Whether you're into costume breakdown or want to screen print, Puff Binder can do it all.

What is Puff Binder used for?

Puff Binder is a textile paint that is perfect for 3D effects. As breakdown artists, we work with costume supervisors, SetDec departments, west end musicals, opera and TV productions that may ask us to recreate anything from snow or mould to embellishments like fake embroidery.

How does it work?

Puff Binder is essentially an expanding paint. It comes in a liquid form, and has a consistency similar to PVA glue. It expands once you heat it with a heat gun and will give your fabrics some depth and 3D texture, adding layers and drawing the eye to your work.

What's the best way to use Puff Binder?

Depending on your required affect, you can apply it in many ways. for example, a brush, a sponge or by screen printing it. You can use it straight out of the pot or you can mix it with our SWFX Pigments to create your desired paint colour. once applied, we then recommend allowing it to dry before using a heat gun to make it expand. We advise not to use an iron as it will stop the Puff Binder from expanding properly.

NB: When it expands it will dry much lighter, you may want to paint onto the expanded Puff binder afterwards
